Great Product

I'm really impressed with this shampoo. The consistency is very thick, almost gel-like. This means it doesn't run right out of my hand and down the drain. There's a cost savings right there. It stays in place nicely, and has a good texture. Don't expect a lot of suds, though. The suds in most shampoos generally comes from SLS (sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate), which this shampoo doesn't contain. More on that later.I have waist length, thick, hair that tends towards being dry. In fact, I generally add a little mango oil to it every other day to help head off split ends. I love that this shampoo doesn't dry out my hair, and doesn't leave it frizzy. The fragrance is very light and is mostly that of jojoba. It doesn't precede me into a room or stick around in a fog of perfume. Nice! I'm very, very happy with this shampoo and will be buying it again.In regards to the ingredients list in another review, if you look on the back of the bottle, there is no SLS. Also, if you go to the official website for nature's gate (natures-gate dot come) no SLS is listed.Here's the ingredients, copied from the back of the bottle:Water, Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine (Coconut Derived), Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (Coconut Derived), Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate (Coconut Derived), Glycerin (Vegetable Derived), Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice, Panthenol, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Borago Officinalis (Borage) Seed Oil, Tocopherol (Vitamine E), Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Hordeum Vulgare (Barley) Extract, Urtica Dioica (Nettle) Extract, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Fruit Extract, Viola Tricolor (Pansy) Extract, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Sorbitan Sesquicaprylate (Coconut and Corn Derived), Polysorbate 20, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (Plant Derived), Sodium Hydroxide, Glyceryl Undecylenate (Vegetable Derived), Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance.Not sure where the confusion is coming from, but there ya go.

UPDATE NOVEMBER 2011:Back in May, when I posted my original review, the website listed Sodium Laureth Sulfate as one of their ingredients. I wasn't too happy about it since I had already ordered some. Well, someone just commented today that their website no longer has this ingredient listed. I went to their website to verify this and am happy to say that they have taken this nasty ingredient out, making this shampoo with natural ingredients instead.Many companies are updating their products, taking out harmful ingredients to please their customers. And Nature's Gate is one of them! Yeah!I went back and gave this product 5 stars instead of the 3 I had before.PREVIOUS POST IN MAY 2011:I bought this shampoo because I thought it was all natural. That's what I get for not researching it better. I was able to cancel my order in time once I found out this shampoo contains SLS (sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate). I gave it 3 stars even though I didn't try it. I feel it's my fault for not making sure of the ingredients. I wish they listed the ingredients on the product page. But since they don't, I cut and pasted here from their website:Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamide DEA, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice, Hordeum Distichon (Barley) Extract, Urtica Dioica (Nettle) Extract, Coffea Arabica (Coffee) Seed Extract, Viola Tricolor (Wild Pansy) Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Panthenol, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Wheat Amino Acids, Soy Amino Acids, Arginine, Serine, Threonine, Butylene Glycol, Glyceryl Undecylenate, Phenoxyethanol, Citric Acid, Sodium Chloride, Fragrance.This really surprises me because their website boasts of all of their "natural products" that are good for you.And if you are wondering what the difference between sodium laureth sulfate and sodium lauryl sulfate, I found helpful information about it online. They are both commonly used chemicals found in many beauty products, including shampoo because it helps with the foaming action. Unfortunately, they both are very harmful chemicals and can lead to hair damage, skin damage, liver toxicity, and maybe eye damage to kids.Apparently, "sodium laureth sulfate is somewhat less irritating than SLS, it cannot be metabolised by the liver and its effects are therefore much longer-lasting. This not only means it stays in the body tissues for longer, but much more precious energy is used getting rid of it."

Beware the formula seems to have change recently

I used this product for at least 15 years and loved it, but they appear to have recently changed the formula. The bottles that I got are a little different looking from the older bottles shown in this picture. I have been noticing for a week now that my hair feels oily and greasy right after being washed. I have returned all of what I have left and will now have to look for a new shampoo unless I can figure out how to reliably order the older formula... until it runs out. God I hate when companies change the "improve" products by changing formulas!
