V05 Free Me Freesia Shampoo

Ok, so everybody knows that V05 is one of the cheaper brands out there. That's why I didn't try this product expecting a salon quality experience. Because that's just not going to happen. But when I got this (and the matching shampoo) I was going for cheapness, not awesome hairness. And it actually did a pretty good job of getting my hair clean.First off, I'm going to talk about the scent. When they say freesia on this bottle, they actually mean freesia. It smelled like the flower to me. There was a little bit of that chemical smell, but nothing like you would expect from a product like this. I wouldn't go as far to say that I felt like I was walking in a garden, but overall it's a pleasant smell, not overpoweringly strong, and something I didn't mind smelling every day for months on end.My hair is the type that it looks greasy after a day, and with a bad product, greasy before that day is even up. While using this product I discovered that I could go two days without washing my hair (I've been trying to do more of that just to give the hair a chance to be natural) and even after those two days, it still looked pretty good. So it must be doing a decent job of removing the dirt without removing all the good oils that the hair needs. Or that's my theory anyway. Another thing the shampoo claims to do is to add body and shine. It didn't do that, at least not with my hair, but I kind of expected that it wouldn't do anything I could notice.The ingredients are not something I am as fond of. When I can, I stick to natural products, organic if I can really swing it. With this cheap brand, you simply aren't going to get that. But I was happy to see that they actually do use freesia and other natural extracts in addition to all the hard to pronounce chemicals in the bottle. It made me feel a little better about using it.And there is a lot of value in this bottle. For only a few dollars (and sometimes cheaper on sale) I was able to have a shampoo that lasted me about three months, even though I use a generous dollop of shampoo with each wash. And by generous dollop I'd estimate a teaspoon worth of product. And that was enough to work up a very generous lather, which I like in a shampoo. If there's no lather I don't feel like my hair is getting clean.A decent product, that's cheap enough it doesn't matter if you leave it somewhere, this might be something I'd consider purchasing again. I'll always go for organic first, but if I can't, this is a worthy enough shampoo.Review by M. Reynard 2012
